Will a $300.00 check stimulate the American Economy?
67So..if your an american I'm sure you've heard about the big economic stimulus package that has been passed by congress to help us stay out of a full blown recession. How many of you out there believe this is actually going to work? lets examine the current state of our union.
1) Every single American owes the US Government over $32,000 in order to pay our National Debt.
2) Cost of living has gone up over 300%, and the average hourl wage has gone up 50-60 cents, not even close to matching the inflation rate.
3) The price of fuel, and food have increased drastically over the past 2 years.
4) The amount of working poor and homeless has increased, and families relying on Government supported health care(Free Clinics) has almost doubled
This "stimulus package" that was passed is supposed to stimulate the economy according to President Bush. How will a 1 time payment between $300.00 for a single person, to $1200.00 per couple and a additional $300.00 per child going to stimulate anything. The money will be spent, and for that month consumer spending will rise, only to fall next month because everyone is back again to square #1, no money. Is this some kind of a smoke screen, or a band-aid to stop the American people from bleeding? AIf you want to stimulate the economy and get money into peoples pockets on a consistent basis here are some interesting Ideas.
#1) Eliminate the Gasoline Tax for 6 months.(This will save us an average of 30-60 cents per gallon.
#2) Provide steady checks to people for a period of 90 days, and review not only consumer spending, but credit card companies to see if people are now paying their bills. If things are progressing, then extend the checks another 3 months. Lower the minimum dollar amount of the people to receive the checks to people making less than 75K a year. I find it hard to believe that someone making 95K a year is considered "Middle Class".
#3) Keep our money in our country. If the United States us supposed to be the richest nation in the world, then why do we have homeless people? Starving people? We send free food and medical supplies all over the world to take care of people in 3rd world countries, while our own people are starving and dying right here. If we use Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as examples of why helping others doesn't benefit us economically, then we should all see clearly by now. We liberated Kuwait, which is a coil rich nation, and kept Hussein from messing with Saudi Arabia by taking him out of power,,and oil is $100 a barrel. Don't you think we should get a little thanks for being there and helping us from either of these 2 nations, I do, but we don't and haven't to date.
#4) It costs us way too much money to be the "Clark Kent" for the entire world. It's time to stay at home and take care of things here. I'm sure the trillions of dollars spent after we captured Saddam would of been great to have here and be used for things like health care, and economical things.
I hope that the next US President sees the light and stands up and leads us all into a brighter future, because till 1-20-09 gets here, our future has very little glimmer.
